Santa Barbara, CA artist Nicole Strasburg's work celebrates the vast outdoors and a sense of personal sanctuary. With nature as her constant muse, she composes her paintings from sketches and photographs taken in the field, seeking to capture the emotion of landscapes in work that reflects rather than reproduces nature. Her paintings become less about "place" and more about "a sense of place" and render depth and movement that enables her, as she puts it, "to convey the immensely powerful, yet quietly mysterious elements" of her surroundings.
